John Taso's Island Experience bungalow was built in 2006 in Port Vato. It's a good base for starting a volcano trek to the ash plain.

Costs and Booking
Island Experience Bungalow costs 1500 Vatu per person, per day, self catering or 2000 Vatu with food. Volcano guiding is 2500 Vatu per day and porters are 2000 Vatu per day. Exchange Rates.

Accommodation and Food
The guesthouse is located inside the village and is something like a home stay. It has one double bed, one single and a kitchen in the next room. Mosquito nets are provided. The kitchen has a gas burner.

Outside is the shower (bucket showers) and toilet (western toilet with bucket flush).

Meals are simple aelan kaekae but surely worth the extra 500 Vatu. Drinking water is from rainwater tanks.

Services
Port Vato has the best store on west Ambrym if you need to buy something more. West Ambrym's health centre is just down the road.
