Nial Botanical Conservation Area, Sanwir, Northeast Malekula

Nial Botanical Conservation Area was established in 1990. This small 2 hectare area has a botanical garden, agro-forestry plot, a nursery, spice gardens, sandal wood and commercial tree species. The owner, Pontiano is very enthusiastic about his collection and a wealth of knowledge. It's an excellent place to see and learn about some of the native plants you might encounter in the bush.

Nial was not developed for tourists so if you want to visit you need to contact Pontiano. You can phone him on 48837 (training centre) or if that doesn't work call 48516 (community phone, Walarano) and leave a message. If you're staying at Rose Bay Bungalows, Nial is only about 20 minutes walk away.
