Visitor
Ratings
Ranvetlam
is a good starting point for walking to the ash plain and
Mount Marum volcano. 'Vetmet' means black stone in the local
language. Vetmet Bungalows provides a high standard of accommodation
and is quite popular with volcano trekkers. It's also a
good place to rest and relax.
Costs
and Booking
Vetmet Bungalows charges 3500 Vatu per person, per night
including all meals. It's pricey but a good place. For volcano
trekking costs see our Walking Ambrym page. All expenses
are payable in Vatu cash. Exchange
rates.
You
can telephone Isaiah Bong, the owner/manager, on 48687.
He speaks Bislama and English.

Accommodation

of the bungalows each have a double bed and a single bed
inside. The third bungalow has two bunk beds and one single
bed. The bungalows have locking doors and mosquito nets.
Mosquito coils are available. Kerosene lamps and candles
are used for lighting.
Vetmet
Bungalows has a shared shower and toilet block. Isaiah is
justifiably proud of his wood-fired hot water system and
shower. Vetmet also has a modern flush toilet. Bath towels,
soap and toilet paper are supplied.
The
food is good at Vetmet Bungalows. Breakfasts are bread or
gato with tea or instant
coffee. Lunches and Dinners use aelan
kaekae and may include fish or chicken, taro,
yam, water
taro, rice and cucumber salad. Ranvetlam's water supply
comes from a spring in the bush and is OK to drink.
