Samuel's Guesthouse, Baravet, Pentecost Visitor Ratings

Samuel's Guesthouse is about five kilometres north of the Lonorore airfield on south Pentecost. There's a nice river here and good bush walking in the hills. Old fellow Samuel enjoys showing people his gardens and vanilla plantation, a half day "tour". The guesthouse was old and run down in February 2005 but a replacement was nearing completion.

Costs and Booking
Accommodation at Baravet cost 1000 Vatu per person, per night, self catering. The telephone number for Baravet is 38320 (community phone) but it wasn't working in February 2005. Samuel speaks Bislama and English. All expenses are payable in Vatu cash. Exchange rates.

Accommodation and Food
Sam's original guesthouse is built of local materials with a concrete floor. It has two bedrooms, a sitting room and a kitchen. One bedroom has two single beds and the other has two bunk beds. Bring your own mosquito net. Mosquito coils are available. Kerosene lamps are used for lighting. The front door has a padlock.

Outside the guesthouse there's one dry-pit toilet, one water-seal toilet (bucket flush) and a shower. The semi-modern water seal toilet is a bit cramped but seems to work.

The small kitchen in Samuel's Guesthouse has a gas cook top and a minimal set of pots, plates, cups and utensils. There are a couple of relatively expensive stores in Baravet where you can buy food. Samuel will offer you some vegetables from his garden and prepared aelan kaekae.
