Community Guesthouse, Betarara, Maewo
Visitor Ratings
The
village of Betarara is conveniently located in central Maewo.
From here you can continue along the west coast truck road
or walk the Naviso loop (see our Walking Maewo page). Towering
above Betarara is Maewo's highest peak, Mount Tagutgagaro.
You can climb it and come back down in half a day (see our
Walking Maewo page).
Costs
and Booking
Accommodation at Betarara costs 1200 Vatu per person, per
night. You can prepare your own meals in the guesthouse
kitchen. Try calling 38342 (community phone) if you want
to make enquiries. Languages spoken are Bislama and English.
All expenses are payable in Vatu cash. Exchange
rates.
Accommodation
and Food
The guesthouse is an annex to the community hall, located
behind the church. It has four bedrooms. Three have bunk
beds (two singles) and one has both a double bed and a single
bed. Bring your own mosquito net. Only the kitchen has solar
lighting so you should bring a torch light. The main guesthouse
door is lockable.
The
guesthouse has a modern toilet and shower. However, the
water supply is unreliable. Bring your own toilet paper,
bath towel and soap.
The
kitchen has a gas cook top and a useful collection of pots,
pans, plates, cups and utensils. There's a couple of well
stocked stores in Betarara where you can buy food. The water
supply is sourced in the hills and should be OK to drink.
Services,
Suggestions and Transport
Betarara has a National Bank of Vanuatu agent and a Vanuatu
Post agent. At neighbouring Kerepei village there's a health
centre. See our Maewo page for transport information.
