| Devil's
Rock Camping, south Ambae
Visitor Ratings
The
area around Devil's Rock is a sparsely populated, quiet
place with sand beaches, coral reefs and sea turtles. There
are plans to build bungalow accommodation and maybe declare
a conservation area at the point.
There's a site near a beach at Devil's Rock where you might
be allowed to camp. James Tabuti who lives at the small
station near Devil's Rock can give permission. About 400
Vatu per tent per night would be reasonable compensation,
payable in Vatu cash. There are no bookings, make your enquiries
after arriving on Ambae. Exchange
rates.
Drinking
water is available at the church (10 minutes walk from the
campsite). There are no other facilities. Bring everything
you need for real camping. Be prepared for rain and mosquitos,
bring a tarpaulin and mosquito net or tent. Bring what you
need for snorkelling and hiking.
