For more
than 20 years now, Lonnoc Beach Bungalows is an established
low key resort near Champagne Beach and Hog Harbour on east
Santo. It's an idyllic place, in a beachfront garden setting
with beautiful views.
Champagne
Beach, more famous than Lonnoc,
is only a short walk from Lonnoc. It costs 500 Vatu to visit
but who do you pay? There are two families disputing ownership
of Champagne Beach.
Four
kilometers north of Hog Harbour, there's a classic blue hole
with clear spring water for swimming. It's free
to visit except on cruise ship days. Further north is Golden
Beach where there is a sign and kastom
fee collection box.
Costs
and Booking
The high
season starts around June each year and lasts for two or three
months. At other times you might not need to make
a booking. Today mobile phones have reached east Santo and you can

Accommodation and Food
Lonnoc's bungalows are of different vintages and styles.
The newest have concrete walls, others are bamboo. Most
have two or three beds inside. All have ensuite bathrooms
with showers and modern flush toilets. In total there are
5 double /twin bungalows, 3 family bungalows and a big dormitory-style
house (sleeps 12).
Each
bungalow is equipped with private bathroom, linen, blanket,
mosquito coils, candles and matches, hurricane lantern and
mosquito nets. Water is supplied from a bore, pumped into
an elevated tank and the pressure at distant bungalows can
be weak and unreliable. The water is generally OK to drink.
A generator is run in the evenings for lighting the restaurant,
bar, kitchen area and several bungalows.
Lonnoc
is quite westernised and the food and prices reflect that.
Standard breakfasts are toast, fruit and coffee or tea.
Real coffee and milk are used. Lunches and dinners are simple
and satisfying, for example rice and beef stew with potato
chips for 600 Vatu. In the high season expect more choice.
If you want something special such as aelan
kaekae, go ahead and request for it. Lonnoc sells cold Tusker
beer for 350 Vatu a bottle.
Transport, Services and Suggestions
See our Santo page for information on public transport.
There
are a few basic stores, a community telephone and a medical
clinic in Hog Harbour village.

CONTINUED FROM BELOW - sorry I couldn't squeeze it all in :)
would have been just fine. We took donations of stationery to local school - they want library books, so if you are thinking about making a donation – that might be worth noting. |

Stayed 3 nights for family of 4. Generator allows fluro light from 6pm til 9pm. We got get a large family bungalow, sleeps 8 (currently there are 9 bungalows of varying sizes, with a honeymoon bungalow and more up market one ready for hire soon). This family run long standing bungalow is a great example of what can be done to increase tourism and income into the local economy. Daniel, one of the family and driver for the days we visited was excellent. Snorkelling was good in the bay - go out to the buoy for the best, kayaks available for hire to explore further - 1000vt/2hrs. Visit Port Orly - ˝ day visit at a minimum. Daniel suggested we go to Nanda or Jackies Blue Hole, 1000vt entry. Ex-pat said take nibbles, bottled water and coils for mosquitos to Lonnoc, used them. there are food storage boxes in the restaurant - essential because of rodents, we didn’t find it a problem– you are afterall in a remote location. Water served in the restaurant is rainwater, and would have been |

Stayed for 5 nights. Welcome on arrival appalling. Asked about security and told that perhaps I should leave my moneys with the manager as drunk villagers may possibly wonder in. It was over the Christmas period. Was told that often guests left there passports with her. The next day my neighbouring bungalow was robbed of approx $500 aud and the only access could have been by KEY. On my leaving told guest cellphoned money found in his magazine. His luggage very little, could not miss it. Dont believe manager about call as guest already well on way to Spain. Felt very unsafe here. Food appalling. Guests had ants riddled through their food. I got the runs. Had my own water so it had to be the food. Could not chew the steak. Snorkeling below average as fresh water seeps up all over but beach is lovely and swam with TURTLE. Holes in bed nets and rats come in at night. Stay at Oyster Island 'wonderful' and day trip here. |

No one can deny the beauty of the place, it's breathtaking. The staff were lovely, especially in the restaurant, but we just felt a bit taken advantage of. We were there for a week and each excursion we did was more expensive than the one before. It would cost $50 to go to a place an hours drive away on a very bad road. The next time it would cost $85, again an hours drive away on a very bad road, with no explanation of the difference. I thought the food at the restaurant was quite expensive for what it was. The servings were small and mostly varied between $12.50 and $18 for beef curry (really a stew) and a very small piece of fish. There's no other place to eat unless you travel an hour and a half back to Luganville, where there's quite a good Chinese restaurant (Santo Chinese). |

Breathtaking beach, nice place, great service, food is very cheap, not too many options but nice and fulfilling. Wendy and Alic are both great hosts. The location is just beside Champagne Beach, but Lonnoc beach is much better in our opinion. Lots of beautiful trees and very big grassy and shady area facing the ocean. Bungalows are simple but good, summer nights can be a little bit hot to sleep especially without a fan. Transport is easy with a red Van passing by the place every day of the week (500 Vatu from town). In opposition to some comments here, prices were clear and are fixed on a wall (including tour prices). The bill came without surprises and all things were correct. |

The beach is beautiful indeed. However I was quite disappointed with the bungalows, they are rather overpriced (7000 for two people per night), especially as the running water in the so called ensuite only worked half of the time. Some bungalows have power (and light indoor), others don't. But the power generator for all bungalows gets turned off quite early without any warning (sometimes before 8pm). The food was well done (especially the laplap was a good experience, ask for it). More transparent pricing of the dishes would help. While staff were helpful, it was never clear for what we have to pay. |

The setting is stunning, with the beach here just as good as the more famous Champagne Beach nearby.
The bungalows are a bit expensive, but also nicer than the average locally-run bungalows in Vanuatu.
They allow camping, too - but when it came to paying, they wanted to charge me twice the rate originally agreed upon! A wide range of activities are offered at very reasonable prices, and the local guide, Alic, is a very nice guy. |

A great place if youre after a 'standard / no-frills' type experience where you can just kick back and relax - fantastic beach location with some of the best scenery in Santo - Wendy & Alick are very hospitable and welcoming to guests and there is enough to keep you entertained in the area for 2-3 days - if this is what youre after, I can highly recommend this place. |

Absolutely loved this place. An ideal place to slow down, chill out and warm up with all essentials looked after for you. If you want a simple experience but without having to tote your gear and plan ahead too much, this is the place. |

Gorgeous fine white sand beach (& 20 min walk to Champagne Beach). Comfortable bungalows. Meals only at 'resort' restaraunt which serves mainly average quality but expensive western food. Short walk to Hog Harbour, nice village, with a reasonably stocked store. |
