Warning warning-not what the reviews say!very poorly maintained,rundown-the school is nowhere near here so the rainwater tank is where?hardly any water in the shower or toilet-better to wash in the stream.Bring your own mozzie coils, water, torch and food. The positive:Nice location for a picnic or day tip from Vila.Owner Joseph really not interested/not there.A most arrogant man doing nothing for Vanuatu homestay.Go to the bungalows near the ferry!Just dont stay here! |

We stayed for 2 nights in May 09 & loved every moment. The people are very friendly & offer tours & 3 meals/day for 3500vt/person. Bungalows are basic and quaint, with coral & concrete walls, thatched roof and grass matting on the floor. They cater for daily tour buses, which benefits over night guests with a large buffet lunch and daily visits by the local string band. The large dining area has power/lights at night and the bungalows have lanterns. Flush toilets run off a tank and so does the cold shower. The beach has a good swimming area and while the snorkeling is not spectacular, there's plenty of tropical fish. We would recommend it to anyone who wants to see a bit of Efate and is not afraid of roughing it a little. You will be rewarded by the local hospitality, great local food, peace and wonderful views.

We thoroughly enjoyed the 3 nights spent at Bamboo Beach Bungalows, Onesua, in north-east Efate. It cost 500-700 vatu pp (AUD$7-9) by local bus from Pt Vila, and 3500 vatu/night (AUD$42), inclusive of 3 tasty, generous meals cooked in local style. Bamboo Beach is attractively presented, with a restaurant and two small thatched roof huts, each with two beds. The huts are well positioned next to a gorgeous little coral beach cove: little blue fish could be seen even in knee deep water, and waves could be heard folding onto the reef. The hosts enthusiastically took us on several excellent local walks. An AusAID sponsored rainwater tank at the local school provides safe drinking water and a kerosene lamp is used after the generator is turned off. Highly recommended, excellent experience. |
