Basic but clean accommodation. Be wary of Jon's extended family at a neighbouring resort (eg Fred George) who will take your booking and money then move you to Banyan castle as whispering is full. Be wary of extra money for everything at Banyan Castle - even going for a walk, some of the children will accompany you and then charge you money. Watch also the huge fees they will charge if you want to see the big banyan tree, despite the fact you are staying in a tree house in rather a large one! The children may sing for you at dinner whether you want it or not then expect payment for that too. Breakfast is tea/coffee and crackers. Dinner is good. The whole family is lovely and the location is amazing, but......

Awesome!! We had the best time ever staying with Jon,Lynda and their kids. They are the lovelyest people and made us feel like part of their family. This is a must for any traveler. Be sure to take extra cash as there isn't anywhere to get money out over that side of the Island, extra guide fees for all side trips can catch you out short.Txt works better for contacting Jon on (678)7795622. The Volcano is amazing and well worth going to see more than once.

John and his family are gorgeous hosts. My friends and I had a fantastic stay and the home cooked food was delicious. We stayed in the Honeymoon treehouse which is 8m off the ground with a perfect view of the volcano from the balcony and from inside the room. John took us ash-boarding which was also a great new experience. Thank you!

Fabien

I was supposed to stay 3 nights in John's bungalow (other tel number: 7795622). I eventually stayed 1 week. For sure, this is the best place to the East of Tanna. It is ideally located in the heart of the most interesting areas of the island. At the bottom of Yasur volcano, close to Port Resolution, Sulphur Bay, and traditional villages. John (who can speak French) and Lynda (a good cook) are wonderful hosts. Around ten tours or activities are proposed here at a really affordable price (volcano, dances, culture, kava, seaside, John Frum evening, horseback riding, surfing...) In January 2011, 5 rooms will be available, some of them in a banyan tree, for a total of 15 beds in all. Among them, the "Honeymoon room", with balcony and overlooking view to the volcano and the canopy. Michel, from Canada.

We stayed a night at the castle in July 2010 and can highly recommend it. Just send Kerty a text message (best to both phones) and he will be at the airport to pick you up. Pick-up ride across the island was fun and easy. The setting of the castle is magnificent! it's more like a family home stay than a bungalow, the whole family had been lovely. The garden, the tree house and the bathroom have been very well maintained, everything was clean. The little bathroom hut is ingenious, it's certainly not western style, but better than a porcelain loo with a bucket. everything blends in with the wonderful country side and we would not hesitate to com back again. Food was excellent too (and a lot). You can walk to Mt Yasur or take a car. or start walking and hope for a free ride. You will be well looked after and life could hardly be better. the phone numbers I've got are: +6787795622 +678 5415931

We stayed at the Banyan Castle for 3 nights - an unforgettable experience. Sleeping in the treehouse is amazing, peaceful and very beautiful. You can lie in bed listening to the "music of the volcano", (as John describes it) watching the curtains swing when the pressure wave reaches you. It is the closest bungalow to the volcano and from the dining room you can watch Mt Yasur erupting, a stunning sight particularly at night. Linda made us delicious dinners (700 vatu) including juice from passionfruit picked fresh from the garden. Conditions are basic but they have good water, a separate hut with a shower room and toilet, and generator at night, useful for charging phones/camera batteries etc. The garden is gorgeous with vanilla pods, stunning flowers, and trees. John was a fabulous host who showed us thecommunity, organised tours and transport when we wanted it, and kept us safe at the summit of Mt Yasur. He even lit a fire on a lava bomb which landed nearby! Highly recommended. We'll be back.
