Jungle Oasis Lodge is near to the Mount Yasur Volcano. It's an enjoyable walk up to the crater in the afternoon (about one hour) and often you can hitch a ride down after sunset. If you want to surf the ash slopes of Mount Yasur there's one snow board at Jungle Oasis Lodge.

Costs
Accommodation at Jungle Oasis in the Garden Bungalows is 2500 Vatu per night for a single. Breakfast is included. Airport transfers are about 2000-2500 Vatu per person. Exchange Rates.

You can walk up to the volcano crater or pay 250-500 Vatu for a shared ride. To this volcano tour, add a 500 Vatu guide fee (200 Vatu per person if more than six) and the entrance fee. Exchange Rates.

There are other tours to Sulphur Bay (Jon Frum tour), Port Resolution (Captain James Cook tour), Shark Bay, bush walking, hot springs (at Sulphur Bay), a kastom village and a cave visit.

Booking
It's worth booking because Jungle Oasis sometimes receives large groups of volcano enthusiasts. We do not have a mobile number for Kelson, the owner/manager. Please leave a comment below or contact us if you can help.

Accommodation and Food
Jungle Oasis Lodge has plenty of capacity with eight bungalows constructed of local materials in a garden setting:
- 2 twin bungalows (two single beds inside).
- 2 triple bungalows (three single beds inside).
- 2 family bungalows (one room with a double and a single bed, a second room with two single beds).
- 1 super bungalow (one room with a double and two single beds, a second room with two single beds).
- 1 bungalow with both a double and a single bed.

If that's not enough there are also two tents with one single bed in each and room to spare. Extra blankets are available for cold nights. Mosquito nets are provided. A generator powers electric lighting at night.

There are a couple of modern flush toilets and showers about (toilet paper is supplied). Beware that the toilets and showers have bamboo and wild cane walls. they are not very private at night when it's dark outside and light inside.

Breakfasts at Jungle Oasis are the usual bread and tea or instant coffee. Other meals are poor value for money at 750 Vatu for lunch (eg tuna sandwich) and 1200 Vatu for dinner (eg rice, lap-lap, beef stew and vegetables). Bottled drinking water (500mL) is free with all meals even though the water supply should be OK to drink. The owner's are Seventh Day Adventists and there's no bar (you can bring your own alcohol).

I stayed here for 2 weeks from 23rd august to the 6th september while I carried out a study on the volcano for my university dissertation. I was able to make a deal with the owner for staying for 2 weeks, although the deal was reasonable I still felt I wasn't getting my moneys worth and being treated poorly. The meals were exactly the same over the 2 weeks I stayed there, you can't imagine what that does to you, i actually thought like i was having prison meals. Kelson and Phillip apear warm and friendly at first but then underneath they want to get at your money for anything. They bother you constantly about 'what is your plan' trying to get you to pay ridiculous prices to go on tours which require a long walking distance or an extra fee for them to get a driver.. Whilst I was staying there a woman came from the volcano that evening and was meant to be staying at a lodge nearby but the man meant to be picking her up hadn't turned up, but when she came into Jungle Oasis due to it being p

I stayed at the Jungle Oasis for my last night in Tanna. In the morning I went to the top of the volcano with my guide Phillip and this was one of the most amazing things I ever did in my life. Phillip speaks good English and is very friendly. You can get a lot to know about the island and the culture. Highly recommendable!

Update on prices as of April 2011: Stay in the bungalow: 2500 vatu Lunch: 750 vatu Dinner: 1200 Entrance fee to the volcano: 3350 vatu Transport to/from the volcano: 250 - 500 vatu, depends on luck and number of people Transport to/from the airport: 2000 - 2500 vatu, again depends on luck and number of people Electricity is turned on for few hours in the evening. "Tap" water is drinkable and tastes ok. Food is good, staff is friendly and helpful. There are rats in the bungalow, but that is expected in the area. There is a small shop close by.

I went to vanuatu as i got a cheap flight in dec 2009. At jungle oasis tanna i stayed 2 nights out of 4. The food was revolting and i saw the cook waving flies of my plate before giving it to me. i had a rat in my cabin. the quide for the volcano knew nothing about it and did not advise me on my clothing therefore i froze up there. the horses had bones sticking out everywhere and grossley split hooves. the resort is located in the middle of nowhere and they charge you like a wounded bull for anything you might need. take my advise and get a ride to the main town from tanna airport i stayed 2 nights at uma guest house which i thoroughly enjoyed. tours to the volcano are plentifull from here. Also don;t bother with the traditional village its all set up for tourists its false and its really expensive.

I stayed there in August 2007. The location is definitely great, and the tours interesting and spontaneous. However, I found the place overpriced for food and accomodation, and the manager a bit distant.
