Port
Resolution Yacht Club is a community project,
for cruising yachts and tourists. It has not always
been as good as it could be but the beautiful surrounds,
friendly people and laid back atmosphere soon overcome undemanding
visitors. The yacht season runs from June to October each
year.
Attractions at Port Resolution are the
hot springs and freshwater lake by the natural harbour and
a white sand beach on the other side of Yetukuri (Port Resolution)
village. Also, Turtle Bay and Shark Bay are both within
walking distance and Mount Yasur is a short drive away.
PRNYC
is built on an old Presbyterian mission site. Ask the manager
Werry (pronounced 'Wary') to show you some of their historical
photos and explain the story underneath A.C.P. Watt's gravestone
(d. 1894).
Costs
and Booking
Accommodation at PRNYC costs 2000 or 2500 Vatu (depending
on who you ask) per person, per night, including breakfast.
To sleep in your own tent costs 1500 Vatu per tent, per
night. Exchange
Rates.

Accommodation and Food
There are four or five bungalows at PRNYC. Each is built
of local materials with a locking door and a hand basin
outside. The beds have mosquito nets. There is a generator
for lighting and a refrigerator in the restaurant.
Water
is supplied by an elevated tank, filled by a solar powered
pump from a water bore. It should be safe to drink.
PRNYC
has two shared showers with hot(?) water
and shared toilet. Bath towels and toilet paper are provided.
Breakfast
is typically bread, sometimes with eggs, and tea or instant
coffee. Standard lunches and dinners (fish with rice and
local vegetables) cost 500 Vatu. More fancy meals (eg lobster)
cost up to 1000 Vatu. Limited Vanuatu Tusker beer is sold
at 300 Vatu a bottle. Exchange
Rates.
The staff are efficient at procuring
all sorts of local produce, just ask in advance. The two stores at Port Resolution stock limited supplies
so do any shopping before leaving Lenakel. You can
buy fresh local bread.
Transport
Booked airport transfers are 3000 Vatu for one or 1500 Vatu
per person for larger groups (one way).
If you
like walking, Port Resolution is two hours walk by road
from Mount Yasur. The shortcut to Sulphur Bay
and White Sands (Jon Frum road) passes behind Yasur and takes about two and a half
hours. Most visitors should be able to find their own way
on these two routes.

It was a great experience! We were the only guests and we stayed for 5 nights. Of course it`s very basic, but that fits to the area. The village nearby is traditional and interested travellers get a good impression on how people on Tanna live. At the beginning, you of course miss the "luxury" that you are used to have at home, like regular meals, a fridge, power... Later, you get used to the life of the villagers and adapt their way of life. Slow down and relax! The owner Werri and his wife Monique, who was in charge for cooking this month, were very friendly and helpful, as all the people we met there. We didn`t have hot water, but it was always over 30 degrees C, so you don`t need it. Tap water (cold) was drinkable. Werri switched on the generator around 6 pm, when it began to get dark. One hour later the beer was cold enough to drink. Until around 9 pm, when Werri got to bed and switched off the generator again. As I said: Life is basic here, but I had the feeling to get a true experience. |

Avoid at all costs.
Although the setting is picturesque, the service is very poor. For example, my first night there I was left in the dark for well over an hour until the owner came back and switched on the generator.
Breakfast was a joke - the artificial jam left a foul oily taste in my mouth for a day afterwards.
At breakfast and dinner I was given a half roll of toilet paper, instead of serviettes. I'm not sure what was going on here ... were they too cheap to buy serviettes? Or did they anticipate that I would have to rush to the toilet after the meal?
I've stayed in a number of village guest houses in Vanuatu. These have been much pretty good, and one in particular, Napunga Bungalows on Pele, was exceptional. |

Stayed here for 2 nights in early July. The facilities are basic - 2 shared toilet/shower blocks that have some privacy. The sheets on the beds were clean and there was adequate bedding for the much cooler nights that are experienced in Tanna compared to the rest of Vanuatu.
Breakfast was very basic, one morning we only received crackers and bananas. Dinner was not worth the money - 850 vatu for basic food (rice, boiled bananas, various meats and egg). On the first night there was not enough food for all the guests. There are nearby "restaurants" that are apparently really delicious and cheaper.
We were reliably picked up and dropped off at the airport and were free to wander where we liked which was nice.
I would probably look at other bungalows rather than go back to this one. |

Had a great experience staying here. It is a beautiful spot and there was good range of things to do while staying there beyond the obvious volcano trip (not to be missed) - the white sand beach, walking to shark bay (more like 90 mins each way but there really were sharks there) as well as exploring the bay. The restaurant area was big and had sofas and a table tennis table (not sure if there was a ball) which would be nice if it rained. Bungalows were fine and toilets good (although there was a low point when we first got there and the water was not on). Werri and Esther were very helpful. |

What a shocker, the main problem is the place is teeming (no exaggeration here) with mosquitos, we were literally fighting off hundreds of the suckers. As far as location, it is quite beautiful however the shower is NOT hot as they advertise (not that many bungalows are, but why say so?) the toilet was absolutely filthy - a brown plastic seat - worse than a bush toilet by far. We were given fish for dinner that looked like they had been taken from a fish tank they were so small. It saddened us to think that they took them so small and didnt throw them back. Walking to any "attractions" was like fighting through jungle. Overall we felt very isolated and couldnt wait to leave unfortunately. Meals were very expensive, lunch 1000 vt and dinner 1500 each. |

Stayed 4 nights and didn't want to leave. Very beautiful spot. Basic facilities but scenery and locals make up for that!! Ester who runs the dining room was great and answered any questions. Ladies do not look at the men in the nakamol. Go to the end of black beach and ask to see the beautiful Katherine who will show you the volcano vents and great lookouts for a small fee. Tell her Annette sent you and says hi. Be ready for a rough ride on the roads. Can go to volcano from Port Resolution but don't go if it's raining. You won't get up to the rim. Take some books and pencils for the local children if you can. Take torch as there is limited power and insect repellant. Unspoilt beauty!! |

I stayed for 2 nts with my 14yo son in July 2007. I found the amenties to be "rustic" and exactly what we had imagined and wanted for our getaway. There is sometimes hot water, but not during our stay. This did not worry us though. Dinner was 750vatu each and quite enough for us, although we bought snacks from home. There were no surprises, PRYC is exactly as it is advertised and I was happy with the bungalow and absolutely gorgeous surroundings. We had a fabulous time visiting the local school, village and cultural centre. We walked along the white sand beach and the black sand beach and went swimming right in front of the club (down a very precarious pathway). We visited the hot springs and were taken out on an outrigger canoe for just a few dollars, had lunch at Lea's restaurant (white sand beach). |

Werry, Monique, staff and local people were a privilege to meet and we have posted a gift for Monique's new baby (Esther Janneth Evelyne} to thank them for making us feel like part of the family. Werry had double booked and we were required to share a bungalow the first night but we feel it was still good value for money. We were excited when invited to a celebration where we met the local people and enjoyed dancing with them after dinner. The local school really appreciates books and pencils and made us feel like VIP's when delivering them to the school. We will definitely be returning to PRYC to enjoy the local culture. Thank you Werry and Monique! |

We went for two nights and stayed for four. Stunning location on the cliff overlooking the bay. The bungalows are gorgeous and the facilites are basic but adequate, the food was a bit plain ( rice and eggs and a bit of veg) considering how many fruits and vegetables they have access to….definately take extra food and drinks to get you thru the day… buy in Vila before you go. There is a generator at night till about 9pm for light … on our last night Werry ran out of fuel … so dinner by candlelight and much to my friends disappointment they ran out of beer as well.
Tips - take a good torch, extra food (nibbles etc) the water is fine to drink from the tap, take some old clothes t-shirts etc to give to the villagers as they are much appreciated or some books or pens for the school. |

July-2005: "Port Resolution Yacht Club was good and a great place generally. Feedback: maintenance not the best, some things falling apart. Werrie has put up the rates, 2500 is a bit rich, but could depend on what the guests look like. Island kaikai would have been better than attempted western style (still 500, good value). But all the same, a delightful place and Werry is a very capable organiser." B.T., Australia. |

Stayed 4 nights but needed more. Friendly people in village. Try the restaurant through the village to white beach, Lea put on a feast for 750 vatu.
Volcano tour is expensive, I suppose the benefit of captive market. We went up in rain but it cleared and we watched large rocks being hurled up, made my ears pop so the rocks must have been going supersonic.
Toilets and restaurant could do with lift in cleanliness, a quick wipe down with disinfectant. Some clean tablecloths would be good otherwise food was OK.
Bungalows pretty basic, fine if you are used to camping. Not many mozzies about although it was breezy in October. 4wd ride back over crowded with me sharing with eleven others and luggage and it was raining so canopy down.

Hi Werry Hi Ester Hi Sam Hi Joseph,
We are back in Australia and wish to thank you for looking after us.
We were a little afraid when we saw the bush knives you all carry but soon realised these are your day to day work tools. Your help and thoughtfulness were greatly appreciated!
We will certainly recommend Port Resolution to our friends

Werry and all of the Port Resolution village people were extremely welcoming and our children especially had an incredible time. The club now has 2 bathrooms hot water and generator, take some extra food if you have large appetites. Highly recommended. |

April 2006. Accomodation & food were average but the people and many attractions around the area made this our favourite place in all the islands we visited. We stayed 5 nights & wished we could have stayed 15. Lila does *excellent* food on the white beach. |
