Sunset Bungalows opened in 2006 and is located at the northern end of Lenakel. The colourful bungalows are easy to spot, by the main road and 100 metres before the TAFEA Co-op complex. As the name says, the seaward facing bungalows feature sunset views and it looks like one of the nicer places to stay around town.

Costs and Booking
A night at Sunset Bungalows costs 2500 Vatu single or 3000 Vatu with breakfast. A double/twin bungalow is 3500 Vatu. Prices have increased although the place seems much the same. Exchange Rates.

To make enquiries ask at the store next to guesthouse or telephone 68683. Jimmy and Helen run the place. Sunset Bungalows often accommodates overflow from Evergreen Bungalows and they seem to have a steady flow of guests.

Accommodation and Food
The bungalows are quite modern with flyscreens on the windows, running water and electricity. There are three bungalows and a new one under construction. Each has a double bed and two singles inside. Showers and toilets are separate, at least for some bungalows.

Food at Sunset Bungalows is generally basic with rice and some local vegetables. It might even be good, if you haven't visited the kava bar in town first! The water supply is pumped from a bore and may be OK to drink. It would be better if they had rain water.

This place is clean and the people are helpful. Location is close to Lenakel and the snorkeling in the bay is good when the tide is not so dangerous. It is quite expensive really, 5000vt for a double including breakfast but we negotiated a lower price for dinner as meals were to be 1000vt for lunch and 1500vt dinner ... convert that into Aussie prices and its not looking so great ... Many of Tanna's bungalows need a bit of a reality check price wise, they are comparing themselves with resorts I think and could be out-pricing themselves.

A good choice in Lenakel but I thought it was bit expensive with meals included. To meet my budget I skipped breakfast and negotiated the cost of an evening meal. The stores in town are good.

We visited in September 2007 and had the most fantastic time. The rooms and bathroom are spacious and clean and the bungalows are a few minutes walk to Lenakel. Helen also made all the arrangments for a visit to the famous Toka Dance which is a spectacular sight of about 2000 locals dressed in grass skirts, feathers and painted faces dancing all night. It is held roughly once every one to seven years and must be one of the most spectacular sights I have ever seen. It even topped the volcano! As it is an all night afair, Helen even found a hut for my kids (7 & 8)to sleep in and looked after them whilst we enjoyed the Toka. Thanks Helen for an AMAZING experience, and I would recommend the Sunset Bungalows to anyone!

My husband and I spent 2 nights and then another night at Sunset Bungalows. We had a fantastic stay. The rooms were spacious and clean and the food prepared by Helen was not only very generous but delicious….especially her famous omelet!! Helen also showed us around and took us to the market.
Thank you Helen and Jimmy.
