Loru Rainforest Protected Area, Santo
The Loru Rainforest Protected Area covers 220 hectares of lowland rainforest on the east coast of Vanuatu's largest island of Santo. It is one of the last areas of representative forest on the east of the island.

Loru is relatively easy to get to and full of lowland rainforest birds. Bowen (1997) lists 30 birds with 5 Vanuatu endemic (e) species for Loru, presented below. View our bird list for Loru.

Loru's guides, Kalsakau and Waraker Ser know the bird names and are experienced in looking after birders. Waraker has also guided birdwatchers to south Santo and along the track to Pic Santo to see some of the mountain birds (2006 and 2007). He can be contacted in Kole-1 village when you visit Loru and Wantok Environment Centre or VanBirds can pass a message in advance. Contact us.

See WTEC's travel website site for visiting Loru.
