| This small sandpiper prefers brackish or fresh water wetlands. It breeds in the Siberian tundra during the northern summer and visits southeast Asia, the southwest Pacific, Australia and New Zealand during the non-breeding season (Hayman et al, 1986). Birds move south in July-September and return during March-early June (Hayman et al, 1986). Very few non-breeders remain south during the southern summer (Hayman et al, 1986). This species is a regular passage migrant (Bregulla, 1992) and small numbers stop in Vanuatu. References. |
