| This mainly sedentary Australian species disperses at times and has spread to neighbouring countries. Bregulla (1992) mentions probable vagrants from New Caledonia on Aneityum and a first record for Efate in 1983. It may now be established on Vanuatu with recent records from Aneityum, Tanna and the Torres Islands although there have been no breeding records yet. The Fiji population has grown at an alarming rate in the past 10 years (Dick Watling, personal communication). Usually one or two birds are seen, in a wide range of habitats: swamps, inland waters, grasslands and along the seashore. References. |
