| This Vanuatu endemic species has been recorded from most islands but has not been observed for many years on some, particularly Aneityum (Birdlife, 2007). It may be seen in most types of wooded country with fig trees. This small bird spends much of its time feeding in the higher branches of fig trees and is difficult to find without local knowledge. IUCN Red List Category: VULNERABLE on the basis of a small estimated population, comprised of very small, island subpopulations and declining through habitat forest loss and degradation (Birdlife, 2007). Field surveys are required to improve knowledge of numbers, range (especially islands with old records) and habitat and rate of forest loss (Birdlife, 2007). References. |
