| This cuckoo breeds in New Zealand during the austral summer and migrates north to the central and south Pacific during the non-breeding season, mostly in Polynesia (Higgins, 1999). A rare visitor to Vanuatu, the birds arrive around April and depart in September (Bregulla, 1992). In Fiji they can be quite common on the smaller islands, though easily overlooked (D. Watling, personal communication). VanBirds has unconfirmed recent records from Vanuatu from Ambrym in late 2008 and from Santo in February 2009. References. |
