| This pelican breeds in Australia. It is nomadic according to seasonal variations in rainfall and has been recorded in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Palau, New Caledonia and New Zealand (Bregulla, 1992). In Vanuatu, Bregulla (1992) mentions a record from 1952 of two flocks on Aneityum that were eventually all shot and eaten by the local people. On Maewo the locals reported five pelicans appearing at Naone village in 2004 (personal communication). The Maewo birds were also shot and eaten. References. |
