| The distribution of the White-tailed Tropicbird is pantropical, in Vanuatu it has been observed breeding on Malo in 1978 and 1989 (Bregulla, 1992). In March 2009 it was again seen on Malo at Nanuku Mission and there were three nests in hollow branches of trees (S. Totterman, personal observation). Local villagers said the birds were non-seasonal. White-tailed tropicbirds lay in all months, whenever local conditions are suitable (Marchant and Higgins, 1990). Villagers said there were more tropicbirds in years past and these were depredated by Peregrine Falcons. References. |
