| This medium-sized plover breeds in Siberia and western Alaska during the northern summer. Outside of the breeding season it visits the coasts of the Indian and Pacific oceans from northeast Africa through India, southeast Asia, Australasia, the southwest and central Pacific islands to coastal California (Hayman et al 1986). Birds reach Pacific islands in August-September and return movement begins in March (Hayman et al, 1986). This species feeds in the intertidal zone and is often seen on short grasslands such as airstrips and golf courses. It is a common summer visitor to Vanuatu. References. |
