| This species mainly breeds in Australia and New Caledonia and the Austral Islands in French Polynesia (BirdLife, 2004b). IUCN Red List Category: VULNERABLE because it has a small breeding range with few breeding locations and it may be declining due to predation by introduced mammals (BirdLife, 2004b). Proposed conservation measures are to survey the Austral Islands, survey other potential breeding areas in New Caledonia, monitor colonies and populations and control introduced mammals (BirdLife, 2004b). Some conservation measures are underway on Cabbage Tree Island in Australia (BirdLife, 2004b). Bregulla (1992) suggests it may be a regular non-breeding visitor in Vanuatu waters. References. |
